The Scars on Cato's Back
12:14
|
|||
LYRICS
There was a boy Cato from a town in the south
Who every time he would open his mouth
Would say "when i'm older, here's what i have planned
I'm going to see what lies out beyond land"
And no scars ran along Cato’s back
From boy to a man our brave Cato grew
And soon all his bold declarations came true
He got his own ship and said farewell to shore
And we prayed for the day we would see him once more
And no scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
Nobody ever knew where Cato went
Sailing away from the continent
What did you see, Cato, do you recall?
But all that he told us was nothing at all
All that he told us was (exhale)
For years our brave lad disappeared to the waves
And we thought he had sailed to a watery grave
But it did not come to pass quite as we feared
For one day abruptly our boy reappeared
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
He stood on the shore, with no sign of his ship
Clutching a crystalline orb in his grip
His mother cried "Cato, my boy, is that you?
Tell us what has happened! What have you been through?"
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
The brim of his hat was pulled low o'er his eyes
But he lifted his head to the townspeoples' cries
Nor opened his mouth, not a word did he talk
But what was revealed gave the people a shock
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
For when Cato showed his expressionless face
Where eyes should have been was not but empty space
All that lay under his brow and his brim
Was a scowl like thunder and a shadow so dim
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
They crowded the boy and they bundled him home
But still not a word he spoke of where he roamed
He uttered no sound and took in no sight
But hunched on the ground and held his orb tight
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
Still was his body and still was his tongue
And at his mother's beckons the doctor was brung
The doctor rushed o'er from the center of town
And spent the day looking the boy up and down
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
His heartbeat was steady, his breathing was fine
But there was a pattern of scars down his spine
The doctor knew not from what strike they came from
But said that a terror might strike a man dumb
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
This doctor cured bodily poisons and pains
But what Cato needed was cures for the brain
So from out of the town a clinician was called
To find what had left the man scarred and appalled
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
The therapist studied the scars on his back
And said "No, this came from no normal attack
I can tell you not of what truly occurred
But the pattern of scars bears a rhythm like words
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
"There's a scholar I met just a few weeks ago
Who knows every language that there is to know"
So they sent for the scholar to try and decrypt
What happened to Cato and became of his ship
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
The scholar was rushed to the young man's aid
To learn what had left him so scarred and afraid
She said "This is language, I'm sure that is so
But this script is no living language I know"
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
"But as a conundrum, this is not severe
I know a historian just north of here
If you can get her, perhaps she can translate"
So they sent for her, and for twelve days did wait
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
During that wait, not a word Cato talked
The man only ate when nobody else watched
He gave little other sign he was alive
'Til on day thirteen, the historian arrived
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
She said "It is possible Cato was cursed
To tell you with what, I must sound it out first
She started to read from the scars on his back
And at her first utterance, her eyes turned black
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
The sigils were writhing along the man's spine
She howled, and Cato responded in kinds
When I saw what passed over the face of that man
I can't say I'm ashamed for to tell you I ran
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
The sphere turned to follow me as I passed by
For what Cato held in his hands was an eye!
I saw not what came next, but I'll say from the sound
I can only be glad I did not turn around
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
I ran for an hour before I stopped and turned
And from what I saw, very little was learned
There was only water where the town used to be
Like Cato, his hometown was part of the sea
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
I had many neighbors I loved in that place
And I can recall not a one of them's face
And too, but for Cato, I remember no name
Nor soon begin guessing by what he was claimed
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[Chorus]
To give caution to others is all that I seek
But is there something else that compels me to speak?
It is that one worry that fills me with dread
Perhaps, through its story, the curse can be spread
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
I only hope that is not why I survived
And it's my good fortune that kept me alive
So I've brought the tale with me wherever I go
But if I forget what it takes, how would I know?
And the scars ran along Cato’s back
[chorus - alt]
I never found out just where Cato went
Sailing away from the continent
What did you see, Cato, I don't recall
All I can tell you is nothing at all
All I can tell you is (exhale)

Stand Up, Cavala!
01:34
|
|||
Stand up! Stand your ground
Cavala is standing tall
It’s time to show your might
And join up in the fight
To unify us all
Across the continent
Our companies are sent
Giving justice a new frontier
Under the great Exarch
We’re summoned to our march
Cavala! Cavala! We cheer!
Stand up! Stand your ground
Cavala is standing strong
All who are harkening
Are heartened when we sing
So raise your voice in song
Sing for the glory of
Honoria
Giving courage to all who hear
So as we sing in praise
And hail the coming days
Cavala! Cavala! We cheer!
Stand up! Stand your ground
And answer Cavala’s call
By the Colossi blessed
We join the noble quest
And never shall we fall
It’s time to draw your steel
And fight for the ideal
For the way ahead is clear
And we will shout with pride
With Inja unified
Cavala! Cavala! We cheer!

Stand up! Stand your ground
Cavala is on its way
They’re gonna show their might
And give us all a fight
For standing in the way
If you got nothin’ to defend
Well, Cavala is your friend
Join up with them and end
Up a- dyin’ anyhow
Or if you’d rather do it quicker
You can tell them where to stick
Their bloody war, and they’ll just stab you dead right now
Stand up! Stand your ground
Cavala is at your door
And once they come a- callin’
Better say that you’re Cavalan
‘Less you got somethin’ better to stand for
And if you’re killed, well then
Just pray you’re born again
As a Cavalan citizen
And you won’t be killed no more
But then again, you still just might
Die a- doing what is right
Which is marching off to fight their bloody war
Stand up! Stand your ground
Cavala’s here to set you free
Of course, the choice is up to you
Just as long as what you choose
Is Cavalan unity
So go on, lay down your weapon
And you’ll earn your place by lettin’
All their soldiers go a-steppin’
Over you to kill your kin
And won’t we all be merry
Once the dead have all been buried
And a new age of prosperity begins?

Now, my friends, this surely is a time of sorrow
Now the encroachment of Cavala is gone
I know we were promised justice by tomorrow
But take solace that without it life goes on
Don’t speak ill of the dead
It would be a shame to celebrate
So let it never be said
That they all deserved their fate
Oh, they all deserved their fate!
They all deserved their fate!
No, let it never be said
That they all deserved their fate
Now the empire has fallen
And the land that was Cavala is no more
So let’s remember all that was Cavalan
And fondly speak of famishment and war
Though they may never trouble us anew
No one should be feeling overjoyed
So I’ll tell you what you really shouldn’t do
Which is: Be glad it was destroyed!
Oh, be glad it was destroyed!
Be glad it was destroyed!
What you really shouldn’t do
Is be glad it was destroyed!
Now, it may have been forgotten in the fuss
But not every former citizen has died
Recall how we loved what they took from us
And maybe we can understand their pride
So show some sympathy to the bereaved
There’s lots of things that ought be left unsaid
So don’t go chanting while they grieve
I’m not sorry that they’re dead
Oh, I’m not sorry that they’re dead!
I’m not sorry that they’re dead!
Don’t go chanting while they grieve
I’m not sorry that they’re dead!
